2019-2020 Executive Board Members

Jasmine Li, B.Sc., E.I.T.

Jasmine Li is the Chair of the Chinese Members Chapter of Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba. She was the Vice-Chair of Chinese Members Chapter in 2017-2018, event coordinator in 2015-2016 and leader of youth committee in 2013-2014. She was also the Vice-Chair for Manitoba Chinese Community Center from 2011 to 2018. Her excellent leadership, project management skill come from her wealth of volunteering experience. Jasmine graduated from University of Manitoba, Bachelor of Engineering with a concentration in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. She is working as Mechanical Design Engineer in Fort Garry Fire Trucks.

Sue Arongna, M.Sc., E.I.T.

Arongna, is the Vice-Chair of the Chinese Members Chapter of Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM). Currently, she works as a structural E.I.T. (Engineer-In–Training) at AECOM after graduating from IEEQ (Internationally Educated Engineers Qualification) Program from University of Manitoba. Her educations include a Civil Engineering undergraduate study at China and an Urban Planning graduate study at France. To improve her professional skills, she is taking a part-time Mater program at University of Manitoba. In addition to the community service at the Chapter, she is also the Board of Director of ACI (American Concrete Institute) Manitoba Chapter and the Committee Member of the Image Committee of ACEC (Association of Consulting Engineering Association)-Manitoba.

Wing-Keat (Wayne) Wong, M.Eng., P.Eng. 

Mr. Wing-Keat (Wayne) Wong came to Canada from Malaysia since 1999.  He graduated from his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 2002.  Immediately after graduation, he was recruited by Wood, a predecessor of AMEC or Amec Foster Wheeler to be an Engineer-in-Training (EIT).  While working full time, he obtained his Master degree in Geotechnical Engineering. 

Wayne is currently a senior geotechnical engineer at Hatch Inc. of Winnipeg office with over 18 years of geotechnical engineering experience in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and Ontario.  He has participated and managed (i.e. Project Manager) a wide variety of geotechnical engineering projects specializing in commercial, infrastructure, oil & gas and mining, which he provided recommendations of design and construction for foundation, floor slab, pavement, retaining wall, embankment, dyke, excavation, riverbank stability, etc. 

Wayne has been actively involved in Canadian Geotechnical Society – Manitoba Section (CGS) and was an executive since 2007.  He was chairing Manitoba Section from 2015 to 2017.   Furthermore, he was the founding member of the Chinese Members Chapter of Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (Chapter) and was chairing the Chapter from 2017 to 2019.  In 2018, Wayne published a paper in the International Pipeline Conference in Calgary.  He also received an Award of Merit under the infrastructure category from the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies (ACEC) Manitoba in 2018.

Zelin Li, M.Sc., M.Eng., E.I.T.

Zelin Li is the Secretary of EGM Chinese Members Chapter. He is currently working as a service engineer at Perten Instruments since 2016. He also worked as a project engineer for COWI A/S from 2011 to 2012. He obtained his M.Eng. in Civil Engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland, in 2016 and his M.Sc. in Sustainable Energy Systems at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden 2011. He also has a B.Eng. degree in Thermal Energy Engineering from Shandong University, China in 2008. 

Jia Chen, B.Eng., E.I.T.

Jia Chen is the Treasurer of Chinese Members Chapter of Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba. She studied Electrical Engineering and graduated from IEEQ program in University of Manitoba.

Qiuyan Yuan, Ph.D., P.Eng.

Dr. Qiuyan Yuan earned her PhD degree from the University of Manitoba. Currently she is an assistant professor at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Manitoba.

Dr. Yuan has 10 years research and development experience in sustainable nutrient removal and recovery processes applied to wastewater and biosolids.  Since 2014, her research area has expanded to solid waste treatment and management. Prior to joining the University of Manitoba, she was a process specialist at Stantec Consulting Inc.

Currently, she is the board member of the Association of Chinese Professors in Manitoba and sitting on EGM Awards committee. She is also serving on the Awards Committee for the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Manitoba.

Steven Wu, M. Sc., P. Eng., FEC.

Mr. Steven Wu is a Fellow of Engineers Canada. Steven graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Master of Science degree in engineering. Steven is working as a senior project manager for Crosier Kilgour and Partners. Steven was the founding member and the Chair of the Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM) Chinese Members Chapter. Steven is currently the Chair of the EGM Registration Committee and sitting on EGM Government Relationship Advisory Committee and Council Election Committee. Steven serves on the Council of College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Manitoba. Steven is also the vice-president of Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Manitoba and serving on the Board of Hong Kong Canada Business Association, Winnipeg Chinese Cultural Community Centre and Lindens Woods Child Care Center.

Mia Wei, B.Eng., E.I.T.

Mia Wei is the website developer of Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM) Chinese Members Chapter. Mia graduated from IEEQ (Internationally Educated Engineers Qualification) Program from University of Manitoba. She is currently working as a Product Designer in Price Industries.

Jovian Jiawei Yang, Student

Jovian Jiawei Yang joined the Chinese Member Chapter of Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba as Student Committee Leader in 2016. He is currently studying Civil Engineering in University of Manitoba and expected to graduate in May 2019.
